Volleyball players from the national team of Turkey have started excellently at the European Championship in Poland. Macedonian coach Yosko Milenkoksky was a bit surprising over the Netherlands with 3: 1 (25:19, 25:22, 21:25, 25:22) in the first Preliminary Group D game played tonight at about 2,500 spectators in Spodek Hall in Katowice.
This was a very important and valuable victory for the Turks, who have the ambition to move forward in the next phase of the championship. The second match in the group is currently being played between France's and Belgium's defending European title. In their second match of the group, Turkey will play against the "red devils" from Belgium and the "tulips" will go against the "cocks". The matches are Sunday (27 August) at 18.30 and 21.30 GMT.
Turkish volleyball players took the first two games relatively easily, but then allowed the Netherlands to return to the game by winning the third with 25:21. However, Turkey came to victory after 25:22 and 3: 1.
Above all for the Turkish team was Metin He with the great 25 points (3 blocks and 69% efficiency in attack) for the victory. For the Tulips, Wauter Ter Maat finished 14 points.
