The Super World Cup, which is supposed to replace the current Confederations Cup tournament, will start in 2021, and the first country to meet it will be China. FIFA gave a "green light" on the organization of such a tournament, which will be led by Secretary General Zvonimir Boban, reports Gazzetta dello Sport.
Germany actually won the last trophy of the Confederations Cup. The tournament was held this summer in Russia.
The new tournament will be worldwide for club teams and will feature 24 teams.
This new Super World Championship tournament will be held every four years and will be a replica of the World Cup, involving the strongest national teams.
The teams will qualify for the Super World on the basis of their participation in their confederations. In this case, the teams from Europe will take part in the tournament by presenting themselves in the Champions League.
The tournament will be held in the summer - in the second half of June, and the winner will keep the championship title in their possession within four years.
The 24 teams that will participate in the Super World will be divided into eight groups of three teams. Only the first will qualify for the direct elimination phase. There will be quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals.
The participants in the Super World Cup will be divided into 12 clubs from Europe (UEFA), five from South America (CONMEBOL), two from Africa (CAF), two from Asia (AFC) and two from North America (CONCACAF).
It discusses the possibility for Oceania to have one player in the tournament to play a qualifying match against another team that has been given the opportunity to compete.
The 12 Europeans will be - the four finalists in the Champions League, the four finalists in the Champions League plus the four teams with the highest odds in Europe.
